Nocturnal Bird Walk

  • Cope Environmental Center 1730 Airport Road Centerville, IN, 47330 United States (map)

Join us for a night under the stars as we search for some birds that would rather fly around in the moonlight. On these hikes we will focus on nocturnal bird activity here at Cope. Most folks think of birds as sleeping in the night, but there are many species that are out hunting, singing, or migrating at night. We will learn about their nocturnal behaviors and why life at night is better for them. Our target species will be owls, nighthawks, Night herons, rails, nocturnal grassland birds, and if we are lucky we will hear some birds migrating over our heads. Please wear proper clothing and foot wear for the evening and a flashlight is optional but not required. The walk is a moderate level of walking with dirt and gravel paths and wide open relatively flat trails.
