As the sun begins to rise over the eastern horizon the birds start to wake up and the nocturnal migrants land to feed and rest. This can be one of the best times to hear and see tons of bird species and it gives us a great jumpstart to a morning that could have a day list of over 80 species. For this hike we will start at dawn to catch the morning chorus and to catch the activity of any nocturnal birds before they wind down for the day. As we listen to the morning chorus we will talk about why birds start singing so early and you will learn how to identify the various calls. Once it becomes daylight we will work at walking the entire property and visiting all the different ecosystems on the property. Are targets are every bird we can find, and the goal is to see 70 species or more. The walk is a moderate level of walking with dirt and gravel paths and wide open relatively flat trails. This will be a great way to kickstart your birdathon lists for the 2026 Birdathon!
