Wetlands After Dark

  • Cope Environmental Center 1730 Airport Road Centerville, IN, 47330 United States (map)

Each year, during the first warm rains of early spring, the forest floor comes alive with one of nature’s most remarkable migrations. Salamanders and frogs emerge from winter rest and journey to vernal pools and wetlands to breed often by the hundreds.

Experience this incredible nighttime event alongside Cope naturalists as we explore the wetlands, observe multiple amphibian species up close, and learn about their unique life cycles and courtship behaviors. Participants may even assist with hands-on citizen science as we safely and temporarily count amphibians before releasing them to continue their journey.

Dress for wet weather and waterproof footing as we will head out rain or shine, because the rain is what makes the magic happen.
