Bird Banding with Mary Sanctuary

  • Cope Environmental Center 1730 Airport Road Centerville, IN, 47330 United States (map)

Have you ever wondered how scientists keep track of all the birds that fly around us? How old are they? Are they healthy? Where are they migrating to? Join us and Libby Keyes from Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary and the Indiana Audubon as we band birds at Cope! The banding of birds is a safe and important activity in understanding the science behind bird migration and population health. At the banding you will learn about the process and how this research is safely and ethically carried out. You will get to see many different species up close ranging from sparrows and cardinals to Warblers and Vireos. We will talk about why these birds are visiting Cope and the importance of native ecosystems for the birds and for us. This is a great event for the whole family to engage in and enjoy the great outdoors of Cope Environmental Center!
