Pottery Workshop

  • Cope Environmental Center 1730 Airport Road Centerville, IN, 47330 United States (map)

Join us for a hand-building pottery workshop led by Bending Branch Studio where participants will create their own ceramic birdhouse from clay. During this hands-on class, you’ll learn slab hand-building techniques and receive step-by-step guidance on shaping and assembling your piece.

For this workshop, participants will be creating one specific birdhouse style with approximate finished dimensions of 7–7.5 inches tall, 6.5–7 inches wide, and 5–5.5 inches deep. Bending Branch Studio will provide instruction and support throughout the process, making the experience welcoming for beginners and enjoyable for anyone interested in working with clay.

After you finish creating your piece, it will need to be fired in a kiln, kind of like baking a cake in an oven. Bending Branch Studio will take all of the pieces back to the studio where they will go through a high-temperature firing and be glazed to make them durable and food-safe (if applicable). Because the kiln process happens in stages and depends on scheduling firings, your finished pottery will be ready for pickup within about 3–5 weeks.

Come enjoy a creative and relaxing session while crafting a unique ceramic birdhouse for your home or garden.
