If you grew up on a farm or near a lake you probably saw flocks of fast acrobatic birds darting around as if they were a bunch of fighter planes chasing each other. This is very common behavior of our swallows and Martins, and every year 6 species of swallows/Martins return from South America to raise their babies here in the Midwest. We will hike the property and look for each species and learn about the very different lives they live. We will observe the nests of our tree and barn swallows, and then hike to the north prairie to see our Purple Martin colony. We will learn about the role these birds play in our local ecosystems and what action we can take to help them survive.
There is no registration for this event however donations are always appreciated.
