Feathers are among the most extraordinary structures in the natural world, and during Secrets of the Feathers, you’ll discover just how much more they do than help birds fly. This interactive, family-friendly program dives into the astonishing variety of feather types and how each one plays a role in a bird’s survival, from insulation and waterproofing to camouflage, courtship displays, and predator deception.
Participants will examine feathers up close, explore their structure under magnification, and participate in demonstrations that reveal how feathers bend, repel water, create sound, and generate lift. Kids will have the chance to design and color their own feathers while learning about the species that inspired them.
This program is free, however donations are appreciated to help support hands-on environmental education at Cope.
