When we think of spiders, many of us imagine scary, eight-legged creatures that are venomous and dangerous. In reality, though, spiders are among the most harmless creatures on the planet and play a crucial role in keeping our ecosystems in balance. Join us and Cope Board Member Ted Gilman for a family-friendly spider walk at Cope. As we explore the forests and prairies, we'll discover the fascinating, colorful, and even entertaining species of spiders that call our property home. Together, we'll learn about their important roles in the ecosystem, the unique adaptations that help them thrive, and how you can identify different species just by observing their webs. We'll also have live specimens to examine up close, and we'll discuss how you can support spiders in your own backyard, along with tips for handling any surprise indoor visitors.
