Whose Bones are Left Behind
What story is being told by animal bones left behind? Maybe an owl is nearby or maybe the deer didn’t have enough food during the winter. See if you can identify the bones of different animals. You will want to know who lives in the woods when you are hiking or camping.
Ukuleles in Nature
The sweet, simple sounds reverberated in the peaceful surroundings of water and woods: See if it’s true… it’s hard to play a sad song with a ukulele. This class is for all levels. If you have a ukulele or if you don’t mind sharing one, please come and play a tune with our little group.

Maple Syrup as a sign of Springtime: Some look to the groundhog to see his shadow, others watch the flow of sap from the maple trees as a sign of spring being just around the corner. If it is still flowing, you may hear the drip, drip, dripping from the sap.

Experience the art of making maple syrup, followed by a pancake breakfast! Sugar Bush Hike starts at 9:00am. Pancake Breakfast 9:00am - 11:30am.

While you are here, join us for a hike in the woods to see how the wildlife is making it through the winter. Let’s see if the Maple trees are ready to produce sap too. February and March are the best months to collect sap for maple syrup production in Indiana.

Nature Hike: Animal Tracks and Traces
Animal tracks, chews, scats, fur, feathers, nests – these and more can give us clues to the lives of the wildlife which call the CEC home. Come be a Nature Detective to look for and interpret the clues that our local wildlife leaves behind that tell us how they live their lives. We'll also look for the hiding places of animals that are resting until the return of warm weather.
